Forget the Beaujolais run, or the Ryder cup. A trip to the Gambia's premier Golf Club at Fajara will give you stories to dine out on at any golf club event. Excuse the jumpy footage, but it is short and its worth a view and I reckon this footage will do more to sell Fajara Golf Club to the avid golfer than any pro name attached to the design of the course. The course itself is 'testing' but the caddys and club pros are excellent value. My 3 boys all had private lessons and much fun with their partners.
Its a bit like going to a dry slope before going skiing; if you can start stop and stay on your feet on the dry slope you will be doing slalem on your second day on the real snow. Likewise with golf at Fajara; There will be none of this frustration and smashing of expensive clubs against trees with my boys. Golf is great when you hit a ball well and it all comes together for you, but in between we will chat and laugh with Gambian friends and have a good time. Nothing too serious. We can all be who we want-"I'm Tiger Woods" " I'm not going to be Payne Stewart" etc How many people can say they learned how to play golf at West Africas premier Golf course.
After a pleasant morning on the course and before a drink in the club house (or dip in the pool for the boys) you go to the bottom of the course to where the palm wine collectors are. There you can sample the wine, have a go at climbing the palm to collect your own and have a running commentary as you go. I have edited out our go..its not as easy as it looks.

Jammeh At Mile Two!!!As He Pleads With IGP Badjie Not To Discuss His Cocaine Trade Involvement
Gambia’s President Yahya Jammeh made a secret visit to the Mile Two Central Prison, where he warned the former Inspector General of police Essa Badjie to refrain from mentioning his name in the pending cocaine trial, in which he Jammeh has been accused of selling cocaine by the accused persons. The President was seen at the Mile Two at 2 am sources, said. Essa Badjie was escorted from his prison cell to the Commissioner’s office, where he met the Head of state. Their conversation revolved around the pending cocaine trial. The President is worried about the implications of discussing his involvement in the drug trade in an open court. He therefore advised Badjie not discuss the matter in court.

Nigeria has sworn in a new president hours after the death of leader Umaru Yar'Adua.
Goodluck Jonathan, who has been acting president since early February, took the oath this morning in the presidential villa in Abuja.
"He was not just a boss, but a good friend and a brother," he said of the president.
President Yar'Adua, 58, who had a long history of kidney ailments and recently suffered from an inflamed heart, died overnight. He will be buried this afternoon in his home state of Katsina.
An announcer on national television said: “The president and commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, died a few hours ago at the presidential villa.
“Security aides notified the national security adviser, General Anou Bissou, who immediately called the acting president. The late president has been ill for some time.”
Mr Jonathan will remain in charge until presidential elections next year, probably in April.
"One of the true tests will be that all votes count and are counted in our upcoming presidential election," he said.
An unwritten power-sharing agreement within Nigeria's ruling party calls for the presidency to alternate between Nigeria's Christians and Muslims. Mr Yar'Adua, a Muslim, was in his first four-year term.
Commentators say he made progress in tackling unrest in the oil-rich Niger Delta since he came to power in 2007. His election was the first transfer of power from one civilian president to another since Nigeria's independence in 1960.

He added that it is the largest club in the country with a capacity for 1500 people seated comfortably. It comprises four bars and restaurants inside.
Dilating to some of the challenges Ramis Diab noted that it is not an easy task but one needs to have a good relation with the people. Compared to other night clubs, Duplex is a different place when it comes to how you dress.
'My club is not only visited by the local people but tourist guests too.' He therefore called on everybody to visit Duplex Night Club which operates on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Every Wednesday is a free entrance for ladies.
There will be a beauty contest come April this year and winners are expected to go home with a huge amount of money, the General Manager announced.
